Maintenance
The Telma system is a low-maintenance system, but carrying out the recommended checks and inspections is essential to ensure correct operation. The checks and inspections on both the mechanical and electrical systems must be carried out either by approved specialist workshops or by trained technicians.
In order to carry out a thorough inspection, it is important that all parts of the retarder system are clean. To ensure efficient heat dissipation, the rotors should be cleaned of all deposits using a steam jet cleaner. This is particularly important when the retarder is used in dusty or muddy environments and during the winter months when roads have been treated with grit or salt. The stator, and in particular the electrical connections, should only be washed using a low pressure jet to avoid damage to insulation.
Caution ! Retarders must only be washed after sufficient time has elapsed to allow rotors to cool down. Solvents may cause damage to the insulation and must not be used in the cleaner.
- LLG range of Axial Retarders - AC and AD Retarders
Many AD and AC retarders are now supplied with LLG (Long Life Greasing) and do
not require periodic greasing. All LLG retarders are equipped with a new sealing system and are pre-greased
with a controlled quantity of grease in production.
The unit is fitted with a greasing point that is sealed with a thermoplastic seal and a label to indicate that the unit must not be greased.Unauthorised destruction of the seal will void the warranty on the unit. In case of an emergency, re-greasing must only be done in consultation with Telma Technical Services.
- Inspections/Service Schedule
Each different type of operation will demand its particular service schedule. It is recommended that the following inspection schedule is implemented:
- A system inspection every 5,000km
- A partial check every 10,000km
- A complete check every 60,000km
In the event of any problems please consult EMR Technology Ltd
